ONE of the biggest mistakes a lot of people make is to pay scant or no attention to what they eat. The smart thing to do in order to lose weight fast is to clean up your diet and eliminate the most unhealthy foods altogether.
Here are five most unhealthy foods to eliminate from your diet if you want to lose weight fast:
1) Soda or Soft Drinks
Many people have the habit of finishing their meals with a soda or soft drink. That means consuming at least three sodas a day. If you know that one can of soda has the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar, will you still drink it?
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Dietary Guidelines, a person on a 2,000-calorie diet needs no more than 8 teaspoons of added sugars a day. That’s less than the sugar content in one 12-ounce can of soda! Drinking more than one can of soda a day adds nothing but a ton of calories and fat to your diet. In fact, you DON’T really need the can of soda at all since sugar occurs naturally in the milk we drink and in the fruits and processed foods we eat. Think of the sweet jams and jellies.
Clean up your diet and break your soda-drinking habit by drinking plenty of water, green, black or herbal teas.
2) Fruit Juice
Fruit Juice is often mistaken as a healthier alternative to soda. Though packed with vitamins, fruit juices are also full of sugar, more than eating the fruit itself. Drinking fruit juice with meals regularly is unhealthy as it spikes blood sugars. Commercial fruit juices sold in litre packs are worse. They are often sweetened with added sugars. Eat the whole fruit instead.
3) White Breads And Refined Carbohydrates
White breads are made of refined grains and refined grains have little nutritional value because the germ and bran layer have been removed. White breads are so low in fiber that the body digests them very quickly, making you hungry and crave for more soon after. To lose weight fast, also cut down on other refined carbohydrates such as white rice and regular pasta made from refined white flour. Clean up your diet by eating coarser, whole grain breads made of whole wheat or rye. Choose whole grain rice and pasta to avoid blood sugar spikes, food cravings and over eating.
4) Foods with Trans Fats
Foods high in trans fats are bad for our health and heart yet they are found in great abundance in the modern diet. The list of unhealthy foods with high trans fats found in our local supermarkets is staggering: margarine, cakes, donuts, French fries, cookies, popcorn, frozen meals, pies, potato chips, crackers and many other commercially baked foods. Trans fats appear on the food labels as partially hydrogenated oils and vegetable shortenings. Clean up your diet by cutting down on processed, packaged foods.
5) Deep Fried Foods
Deep fried foods are tasty but extremely high in calories and saturated fat. Because most fried foods in fast food joints and restaurants are fried in oil that has been used repeatedly, eating fried foods can pose serious health threats as deep frying causes by-products that are carcinogenic. To lose weight fast, clean up your diet by eliminating deep fried foods such as fried chicken, fried fish, hash brown, French fries and onion rings.
